Standalone Office is still available, but Microsoft makes its subscriptions far more appealing. When Microsoft ended support for Office 2010 in October 2020, you had two upgrade choices: Office 2019 or Office 365. While both offer Office apps, they differ in how you buy them, what apps they include, and how they are supported.
Microsoft 365
Let us begin with Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 is a subscription service that makes sures you always have the most up-to date modern productivity tools from Microsoft. With a subscription, you will always have the latest features, fixes, and security updates along with continuous tech support at no extra cost; you can even pay for your plan monthly or annually.
Microsoft 365 Business Standard & Premium plans offer the full office package as well as secure cloud services. The secure cloud services include extra online storage that can be accessed from anywhere. 365 Business plans are for companies that need full remote work and collaboration tools including Microsoft Teams, secure cloud storage, business email, and premium Office applications across devices.
Prices start at £3.65 per user/month for the basic version.

Office 2019
Office is sold as a one-time purchase, which means you pay a single, up-front cost to get Office apps for one computer. The RRP of one copy is £248.46. One-time purchases are available for both PCs and Macs. With this option you only get the basic office version and only three apps: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, there are no upgrade options, which means if you plan to upgrade to the next major release, you will have to buy it at full price. Microsoft is not making one time purchases easy or appealing: you get limited choices, no services, no security, no support, and no updates.
