High Speeds in Rural Locations with Starlink
Further to my recent blog Revolutionising Connectivity for Rural Property Developers, last week our engineers attended a site (a Quarry) to install a Starlink solution.
Historically, the site in question has suffered poor connectivity options with only a 3Mbps ADSL connection (so upto 3Mbps Downstream and less than 512Kbps Upstream) available or an expensive Leased Line, which would incur significant EECs (Excess Construction Charges) due to the ‘Civils’ required to install a dedicated line. Most recently we were led to believe FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) was ‘available’ according to online checkers. But when BT attended site, the BT engineer advised after assessing the length of cabling from the Exchange to the Quarry (well over 2500m), that FTTC is not an option unfortunately and as such put a cease on the order.
So we decided to turn to Starlink to see if the solution would provide better connectivity. Through the little rectangular dish you can see in the images below, the site is now receiving connectivity speeds of 180 to 160 Mbps Downstream, which a radical improvement on the previous connection. Not only does this help Users on site, but it also improves the quality of monitored CCTV to maintain security at the location.

Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more.
Leveraging advanced satellites and user hardware coupled with our deep experience with both spacecraft and on-orbit operations, Starlink delivers high-speed, low-latency internet to users all over the world.

So if you are between a rock and hard place (please forgive the Quarry pun) with the connectivity at your location, please get in contact with Fusion IT. We can recommend the perfect solution and install it for you.
